About Jon
“I’m the Customer Engagement Coordinator at Origin Housing and am interested in relationships between people, place and civic society. My job is to make users the centre of everything that we do at Origin – often crucial services for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

I used to work for FutureGov on a range of design, tech and change project; and at Thames Valley Housing. I also run Housing Camp, an unconference for people interested in doing new, exciting and different things in social housing.”

About the talk
Housing and care providers deliver crucial services to support some of the most vulnerable people in society. So, it’s pretty crucial these services are designed around those receiving them, right? The good news: Sometimes we’re incredibly good at designing for users. The bad news: Lots of the time, we’re not. At all.

Jon will explain how by making sure that users are at the centre, services can be elegantly designed to satisfy the serious user needs. Hilarious stories from Jon’s experience promised.

What If I am Alone: EmergenSee kit

Future Pioneers is the Design Council award given to celebrate and nurture emerging designers who are principled, passionate and purposeful. The four winners were discovered at this year’s New Designers show. Their work includes a first-aid kit designed to be used with one hand, a proposal for an alternative internet realm, a service condensing down inherited objects into memory prompts, and a social impact project connecting allotments to food banks.

These four graduates are ones to watch. If you visit Designersblock on Friday you might be able to catch our service design talks too.
